Your most expected Linux distribution is...

I have asked you recently about the most expected Linux distribution due to official release within next 3 months.

The options in the poll were Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Kubuntu, OpenMandriva, Tails, Tanglu, or other.

It is time now to announce the results.

The poll was open for 2 weeks. 258 results were received.

As you can imagine with an "Other" option, there was a variety of answers. However, top 10 of responses looks like this:

Distribution Votes
Ubuntu 78
Kubuntu 37
Xubuntu 23
Linux Mint 19
Lubuntu 15
Tanglu 15
Debian 8
Tails 7
Arch linux 6
OpenMandriva 6

The visual representation of the results:

There is no wonder that Ubuntu itself got more than a quarter of total results. If totalled with its sisters K-, X-, Lubuntu, they give more than a half of the votes.

And finally, I'd like to mention some interesting submissions from the "Other" category:
  • Anything but Ubuntu
  • MX-14
  • Nazi-OS
  • LXQT
  • Mageia (the latest release happened only a month ago!)
  • Pear OS 8 (discontinued distribution)
Hope your favourite distribution will also get a new version soon! And, of course, you can order a disk with it via the BuyLinuxCDs site.

  1. NaziOS? How bizarre.

I received an email yesterday stating that there is a new release of Puppy Arcade. That is one I will definitely be trying out.

  2. LOL, just when I thought I had heard it all when it came to distro names, along comes NaziOS. ;-)

The results of this poll are really not surprising. I hate to say this, but it seems now days *buntu is your best hope for getting the maximum Linux experience. The real distro war days seem to be gone. And honestly, I miss it. I miss not being able to decide if I liked distro a, b, c, or d better than the others. But at the same time, it's kind of a relief to not be distro hopping any more and to have one standard distribution I can recommend for anyone new to Linux.

  3. Jonquil, there are still lots of people who wait for non-Ubuntu based distros. :)

    1. Like Arch Linux (in fact, Antergos) which helped me stopped recurrently installing distros to get latest features.
