Who nows what dance the wireles card itself goes through when it is firs woken up?

But from things you can control it could be as simple as doing a 'sudo sync' after the 'cp' and before the 'modprobe'. You told linux to copy the file, but did it commit the copy or was it still in cache? This is probably not the most likely reason, but still possible.

Great review,

ThanksSean Lynchnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-474321140763590831.post-57398523859768230412011-10-13T14:04:29.220+01:002011-10-13T14:04:29.220+01:00Well, if I am going to use KDE, it is going to be ...Well, if I am going to use KDE, it is going to be in the safety and comfort of Debian.Nathan Smithhttp://thelibrarybasement.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-474321140763590831.post-28123639808627985052011-10-13T07:59:30.098+01:002011-10-13T07:59:30.098+01:00'KDE environment shipped with Squeeze doesn...'KDE environment shipped with Squeeze doesn't live up to the Debian reputation with regard to quality'.

@Alex, as a fellow Debian+KDE only user I must state that's sadly true.Debianeronoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-474321140763590831.post-53282289622241063022011-10-13T03:44:15.622+01:002011-10-13T03:44:15.622+01:00I beg to differ. Just to give an example, starting a new graphical session after the system has been booted takes around 30" even on quite decent hardware (which is way more than the time required to boot the operating system).

This problem isn't a Debian-specific thing, but is a known problem in the KDE 4.4.x series (which has been documented, and was addressed during SoK 2010).

The KDE version included in Squeeze has also several broken components (for example, if you ever tried to use a Bluetooth dongle, you probably know what I mean -- by the time Squeeze shipped, bluedevil was so buggy that should've never been released).

Please don't get me wrong. I love Debian and I've been using it as my only OS for the last 5 years. But the KDE environment shipped with Squeeze doesn't live up to the Debian reputation with regard to quality.

Best regards,Alexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13274605990888091659noreply@blogger.com
